On February 17, 2009 President Obama signed into law The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, providing us with a tremendous opportunity to transform healthcare in the United States. The law provides $19 billion in health information technology funding, including $2 billion in discretionary funds and $17 billion for investments and incentives through Medicare and Medicaid to ensure widespread adoption and use of interoperable healthcare IT systems such as the Electronic Health Record.
